Westbrook

Mary Jane Drew of Westbrook, formerly of Old Westbury, New York and Jamesport, New York (“Janie’s Port,” as she called it), passed peacefully at home on May 30, surrounded by her devoted family and lifelong best friends.

Jane was born May 12, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Peter and Anita Trozzo. She studied nursing and cheered for the hockey team at Fairfield University, where she fell in love with a defenseman and met her best friends who were by her side when the angels guided her home. A nurturing soul and a caregiver at heart, she earned her master’s degree in public health and pursued her lifelong dream of motherhood, raising two children while proudly serving her community as a registered nurse and nursing instructor. Jane had a deep passion for health and fitness and cherished her daily walks to Pilots Point Marina and visits to Cocoa Beach, Florida with her husband and beloved cockapoo, Rusty. Her selfless compassion, affable nature, and quirky wit and humor were profound gifts to all who knew her, from patients to loved ones to strangers she would charm at the post office, and her brilliant smile was the brightest the world has ever seen.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 44 beautiful years, Donald John Drew; children Jessica Drew McBride and her husband Tyler of South Glastonbury and James Drew of Maitland, Florida; and sisters Nancy Meek of Massapequa, New York, Lisa Raine of Saratoga Springs, New York, and Christine Savidge of Media, Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Peter Trozzo.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, at Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, in St. Mark the Evangelist Church, McVeagh Road, Westbrook. Burial will follow at Cypress Cemetery, Westbrook.
