John Pogwizd, 92, of Clinton died May 26. John was born March 23, 1929, to John and Frances Pogwizd of New Haven. John was happily and lovingly married to Dorothy M. Pogwizd for 64 years.

Besides his loving wife Dorothy, John is survived by his daughter Kathleen Pogwizd Pontillo of New York City, daughter-in-law Lisa M. Pogwizd of Chester, and grandson Johnathan F. Pogwizd of East Haddam. John was predeceased by his son, John F. Pogwizd; son-in-law Larry J. Pontillo; seven siblings, Tony, Mary, Julia, Josephine, Frank, Sophie, and Genevieve; niece Carol Vanski; and nephews, F. Thomas Pogwizd and Mark Velardi.

John graduated from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, and was a veteran of the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. John’s working career was with A.C. Gilbert Toy Company and Echlin Automotive Inc. in management positions. John was also the sexton of St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation in Clinton for many years and loved taking care of God’s House. There were no strangers here, only friends he had not yet met. John was an avid gardener, landscaper, skilled carpenter and enjoyed fishing and boating.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 2 in St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation, Clinton, followed by burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
