Carroll Blake, 84, of Westbrook passed away at home with his family on May 6.

Carroll was born in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on June 22, 1936. He was the son of the late Helayne (Karcher) and Terance Blake. In 1959, he married Georgiana (Glynn) Blake in Skaneateles, New York. He was the father of David (Vecki) Blake of Colleyville, Texas, John (Liz) Blake of Guilford, Paul (Deborah) Blake of DeWitt, Michigan, and Sarah Blake of Arlington, Virginia. Carroll had eight grandchildren, Brian (Katie) Blake; Leigha (Brian) Kalkreuth; Madeline, Adam, Emily, and Lillian Blake; and Adeline and Ashton Azelton. He was the brother-in-law of Sandra (William) Halloran and had several nieces and nephews. Carroll’s brother Terance (Colette) Blake, Jr., predeceased him.

Carroll grew up in Carroll Park, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius (New York) High School as president of his class. He played high school baseball, football and basketball, for which he was named All Central New York.

He was active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of eagle scout as did all of his sons. Carroll was the third generation to graduate from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Sibley College of Mechanical Engineering. At Cornell he played basketball and intramural sports. He was in ROTC and the Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Carroll was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps as a second lieutenant. While on active duty he served at Quantico, Virginia and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He attained the rank of captain while serving in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Carroll lived in several locations while he worked for different chemical companies. After retiring from E.I. DuPont as a chemist and field sales manager in automotive finishes, he was director for Automotive Business Group Division for Cook Paint Company and Sherwin Williams. He ended his career working as a consultant for BASF at GM in Tarrytown, New York.

In 1985, Carroll started Gateway Power and Equipment Store and Blake Warehouse and Distribution,; a family business in Greenwich, which was later moved to Centerbrook.

Carroll enjoyed playing golf and was a member of Great Oaks Country Club, Rochester, Michigan, and Clinton Country Club, Clinton. Besides his hole-in-one, he played in two Pro/Am Buick Opens in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He also played golf with Billy Casper in a golf outing, and on a trip to Scotland, he played golf with Royal Ancients and was invited for lunch in the Royal Ancient Clubhouse.

The family would like to thank the VNA, the staff of Gladeview Rehabilitation Center, and Masonicare for their devoted care of Carroll.
