Branford

Doris E. Martone of Branford died on May 9 at South Lake Hospital in Clermont, Florida. She was the wife of the late Carl Albert “Albie” Martone. Doris was born Oct. 12, 1927, in Middletown, New York, the daughter of the late Irving and Pearl Lane.

She and Albie owned the former Martone Poultry Farm. She also had worked for many years at Hilltop Orchards in Branford. She then worked as a nanny for many local families. Doris was the ultimate caregiver, always taking care of her family and friends. She was also a member of the Canoe Brook Senior Center in Branford.

Doris is survived by her children Carolyn Cronin (Ken Bacon), James Martone (Ann Nankervis), and Carla (David) Bristol, all of Branford, and Mark (Norene) Martone of Madison; her grandchildren Courtney Vincent, Erin (Kevin) Hansted, Olivia (Chris) Wall, Chad (Heather) Martone, Samantha (George) Girard, Kimberly (Brandon) Cser, Jennifer (Tim) Cronin, and Rebecca, Kyle, and Matthew Martone; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Irving Lane.

Her funeral will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 17, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Bosco Parish at St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery. Visitation prior to the funeral from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
