Madison

Lamont “Monty” Bavin, longtime resident of Madison since 1963 and raised in Guilford, born April 30, 1939, passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital on May 3, with his loving family by his side.

The devoted husband and best friend to Dorothy “Dotty” Wettemann Bavin, Lamont was the beloved son of the late Lillian Bavin Holden and William Hollis Bavin. He was the loving father to William (Robin) Bavin and Paulette Bavin (Mark) Reynolds; grandfather “Poppy” to Christian (Cassie) Reynolds, Jessica Bavin (Kyle) Teft, Ryan Reynolds, and Jake Bavin; and great-grandfather to Sophia Grace Reynolds. He also leaves behind his brother Douglas (June) Bavin and his wife’s siblings, Bob (Grace), Kenny, Paul (Mary Ellen), and Ruth (Al), who loved him as their brother, as well as many relatives and countless friends.

Monty served his country proudly as a United States Marine and worked locally as a land surveyor where he could be close to nature. He will be remembered for his gentle and caring disposition and his love for family. Being a Poppy brought him the greatest joy in life and he was an amazing role model to his family. Mont’s happy places were in the garden, taking long walks, hanging out at the beach, playing bocce, road trips, delivering meals on wheels, and walking hand and hand with his best friend. Sunday dinner and every holiday with the kids was always the highlight of his life, and he felt blessed that he was able to spend time with those he loved.

Due to COVID a private Mass of Christian burial for immediate family only will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 10, at Saint Margaret’s Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in West Cemetery, 71 Jannas Lane, Madison. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Monty’s memory may be made to the Garden Club of Madison, P.O. Box 29, Madison, CT 06443.
