John J. “Jack” Brown, longtime resident of Madison and most recently of Wallingford, passed away on April 22, peacefully at Masonicare in Wallingford.

The husband of the late Carmela Marie (Abato) Brown, Jack was born in New Haven on Feb. 16, 1930, son of the late Stephen Brown and Mary (Rourke) Brown. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Brown and brother Thomas F. Brown.

He was the brother of Robert Brown of Guilford, stepfather of Ronald Goldman of Florida, uncle of Elizabeth Robison (Bill) of Missouri and Bill (Anne) Brown of Florida, and great-uncle of Thomas and Anna Robison of Missouri and Daniel and Caitlyn Brown of Florida. He is also survived by many cousins, especially Robert Meskill, who looked over him the last few years of his life, as well as other extended family and many lifelong friends.

Jack graduated Hill House High School in 1947. He joined the Army and served abroad during the Korean War. After the war, he became a service technician for the Southern Connecticut Gas Company, where he worked until retirement in 1994. Jack and Marie then moved to Lakeland, Florida, where they spent the next 20 years together until Marie’s death in 2015.

Jack was very kind, religious man with a quick wit and incredible memory. He loved the Boston Red Sox and could recall more players’ names then most have forgotten. He and Marie loved all animals, especially their beloved cats, enjoying time with friends and taking the occasional trip together.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to all the caregivers from Lifetime Care at Home in Guilford and Masonicare in Wallingford for their service and dedication.
