North Haven

Anthony Sommo, 90, of Daytona, Florida, formerly of North Haven for many years, passed away peacefully on April 20 at Halifax Health Medical Center, Daytona Beach, Florida.

He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Lucy LaVorgna Sommo. Anthony was born in New Haven on Nov. 18, 1930 and was the son of the late Charles and Louise Messina Sommo.

He served his country faithfully for four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war. Anthony worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years retiring as a letter carrier and later worked for the Wallingford School System for 15 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was the father of Ann Cillo, Louise Mathog, and Caroline (John) Kronkiatis; grandfather of Anthony (Melissa) Cillo, Sr., Amber Cillo, April Korbin, Iris (Travis) Cummingham, Lucia (Eddie Perez) Bergeron, Chelsey (Sadik) Hadzovic, Justin (Kristen) Pethick, Joshua Pethick, and Katie (Bruno) Ciccone; brother of Charles Sommo, Theresa Cimino, and the late Robert and Louis Sommo; and brother-in-law of Elizabeth and Margaret Sommo. He was also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Anthony Cillo.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial at noon on Thursday, April 29, in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven. Interment with full military honors will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, Universal Drive, Daytona Beach, FL 32118.
