North Haven

Achille Vincenzo “Vinny” DiVirgilio, 76, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on April 15 at Yale New Haven Hospital/St. Raphael campus. He was the beloved husband of Adriana Mosca DiVirgilio and would have been married 53 years on April 19. Vinny was born in Gioia Sannitica, Province of Caserta, Italy on Sept. 23, 1944, and was the son of the late Carlo and Rosa Vingione DiVirgilio.

He was the owner and operator of Italia Importing Company, Grand Avenue, New Haven for 50 years, and the former owner of Adriana’s Restaurant.

He was the loving father of Rose (Scott) Polinsky and Cristina (Youssef) Abdouh, beloved papa of Giuliana and Sofia, and brother of Michael (Lucia) DiVirgilio, Lorenzo (Maria) DiVirgilio, Salvatore (Mirella) DiVirgilio, Maria (Gino) Bianchi, Elena Corona, Concetta Labagnara and the late Alessandro DiVirgilio. Predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Alessio Labagnara, and Giuseppe Corona. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

To know him was to love and respect him; he will truly be missed.

Family and friends are invited to go directly to St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven at noon on Tuesday, April 27, to attend a Mass of Christian burial and are also invited to attend the committal service immediately following in All Saints Cemetery. (Masks and social distancing required for all services.) In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.
