Mauro J. Suraci

Mauro J. Suraci, 89, of North Haven, passed away peacefully on April 16 at the Meadow Mills, Hamden with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 65 years to Barbara Ford Suraci. Mauro was born in New Haven on Dec. 7, 1931, and was the son of the late Anthony Suraci, Sr., and Concetta Giamo Suraci.

He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy. Mauro earned his bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University and his master’s degree and 6th-year from Fairfield University. Mauro was a physical education teacher for the North Haven Board of Education for many years until his retirement and managed the Paradise Country Club for 21 years.

He was the father of Barbara A. Suraci, Edward (Cynthia) Suraci, and Brian (Jennifer) Suraci and grandfather of Ethan, Conner, Juliana, and John Suraci. He was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Suraci, Jr., and sisters Elizabeth D’Amico and Rose Veith.

The visiting hours will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday morning, April 22, at The Havens Family, North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Avenue. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon in St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish at St. Barnabas Church, 44 Washington Avenue, North Haven. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
