Guilford

Mary Jane Killian, 96, a longtime Guilford resident, passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice, Branford, on April 3. She was the wife of the late Carl W. Killian, who died in November 2018.

She is survived by her daughter Linda Killian of Washington, D.C. and Guilford. Her son Larry P. Killian died in May 2020.

She was born Dec. 6, 1924, the daughter of the late Peter and Angela Rose (LaSalle) Sardo in Reading, Pennsylvania. Her brothers, Peter Sardo and Joseph and Dominic Manzella, all of Laureldale, Pennsylvania, also predeceased her.

Early in her life, she worked as a beautician and she had a lifelong love of fashion, the more colorful the better. She had a huge collection of hats and throughout her life was almost never seen without one. For a number of years, she was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening and plants and spent many happy hours on the landscaping and plantings around her home.

Friends are invited to a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, in Alder Brook Cemetery, 375 Boston Street, Guilford. In lieu of flowers donations in her name can be made to SARAH Inc. 1620 Boston Post Road, Suite 200, Westbrook, CT. 06498.
