East Haven

Eleanor (Carboni) Avitabile, 98, of East Haven, beloved wife of the late Pasquale Avitabile (1994), passed away at home on Easter Sunday, April 4.

She was the loving mother of Patricia Walker (Fred) of New Haven, Susan Avitabile (Al Kacerguis) of Durham, and Joan Odorizzi Avitabile (Steve) of North Carolina. Eleanor was the proud grandmother of Richard Ross (Kelly) and Jerry Ross (Debbie) and great-grandmother of Carly, Erin, and Erika Ross. Eleanor is also preceded in death by her siblings, Theresa Levine, Elvira Eramo, Emma Jean Rakiec, Julia Traycoff, Robert Carboni, and Marshall Carboni.

Eleanor was born in Kent, Ohio on Dec. 27, 1922, the daughter of Caesar and Mary (DeFelice) Carboni. She was loved for her quick smile and great sense of humor.

Family and friends are invited to meet at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 8 to attend a Mass of Christian burial in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish and the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Avenue, East Haven with committal to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. Please go directly to the church. Funeral services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Avenue, East Haven.
