Craig Raymond Schmidt, 65, of Florida and formerly of Madison, has died. Lovingly referred to as “Cowboy,” he was born in 1955 to Carol Ann and Robert Schmidt and passed away peacefully in May 2020 due to complications of cancer.

Craig was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia Lane Schmidt, his parents, brother Robert, niece Taylor, and nephew Shane. He is survived by his daughters Tabitha Wu and Amber Schmidt, grandson Evan Wu, sister and brother-in-law Alison and Phil Mielcarz, brother and sister-in-law Stuart and Diana, and nieces Brooke, Melissa, Amy, Cassie, and Cory.

He graduated from Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Class of 1973. He worked as a mechanic for most of his life and did 35 years at Hammonasset Ford.

Craig was most known for his love and success of fishing and lobstering. He was even featured in the newspaper many times. He also spent his free time vacationing in Arizona, riding his Harley, hunting, and gardening. He never met a stranger, always had an opinion, and secretly had a big heart.

Please join us graveside at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16 at West Cemetery off Boston Post Road in Madison, followed by a celebration of life at the USS Chowder Pot III in Branford. Please RSVP to Tabitha via text message at 386-212-7421 if you plan to attend.
