Richard P. Bartholomew, 89, of North Branford entered peacefully into eternal rest on March 22 at Whispering Pines Rehabilitation in East Haven. He was the loving husband of Jean (Nugent) Bartholomew. Born March 7, 1932, in Bangor, Maine, he was the son of the late Leon Bartholomew and Elizabeth (O’Loughlin) Bartholomew.

He graduated from UMass Amherst with a degree in accounting and worked as manager of customer accounting for United Illuminating until his retirement. A proud American veteran, he honorably served in the United States Air Force. He was a devoted member of St. Augustine Church of North Branford and an avid golfer, with memberships at Lyman Golf Club and Island Green Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he had his first hole in one.

Bart was proud of his Irish heritage and everything Irish. He was known for his infectious smile, love of life and for his prowess as a handyman—Mr. Fixit. He and his wife Jean loved to spend their summers at their cottage in Dennis Port, Massachusetts, where they made many long-lasting friendships. Bart and Jean traveled often with friends and family most memorably to Ireland celebrating their roots. The card club crew brought him much laughter and joy. Pop Pop adored his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of his life as he was to them. He will be remembered as kind, funny, a great entertainer, and a caring friend and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his wife Jean, Richard leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Theresa (Joseph) Kedves of Madison and Susan (Sylvia Gamboa) Bartholomew of San Antonio, Texas; two granddaughters, Natalia (Ken) Feinstein and Alexia (Dennis) Volpe; and five great-grandchildren, Elliot, Maya Jane, Dylan, Spencer, and Evelyn Rose. He also leaves behind two brothers, David Bartholomew of Hobe Sound, Florida and Michael Bartholomew of Rockland, Maine; one sister, Nancy Forhan of Paxton, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four infant daughters; brothers Leon, Gerald, and Robert Bartholomew; brothers-in-law James Quinlivan and Marty Forhan; and sisters-in-law Loretta, Ruthann, and Mary Bartholomew.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 28 at the Keenan Funeral Home, 330 Notch Hill Road, North Branford. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2021, at Keenan Funeral Home, North Branford. Interment with full military honors will follow at The Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, six-foot social distancing and face coverings will be required for entry. Building capacity is limited and will also be monitored.
