Branford

Eileen Gabriel Mooney Field, 100, entered eternal rest on March 16 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Eileen was born in Dublin, Ireland on July 26, 1920, to Elizabeth Mary O’Connor and Joseph William Mooney.

She is survived by her children, Robert J. Field (Dorothy) of Bloomfield, Deirdre Braun (Ted) of Branford, Deborah Witt (Bill) of Amston, Jane Ross (Paul) of Branford, and Mary Lou Rice (Michael) of Old Lyme. She was the beloved grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. as well as the beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Eileen was predeceased by her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years, Richard M. Field. as well as her siblings Joseph Mooney, Deirdre FitzGerald, John Mooney, Julie Becker, Fergus Mooney, and Elizabeth Desmond.

Eileen lived her adult life in Branford on the Field Family Farm raising her family, tending her beautiful gardens, and always welcoming with open arms her extended family and friends. She supported her husband Richard in being stewards of the land and only using organic methods for their prolific vegetable garden.

She was committed to and actively participated in her church of St. Mary’s as well as many community organizations including the Branford Woman’s Club, Branford Garden Club, Branford Historical Society, Friends of the Blackstone Library.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, at St Mary Church of St. John Bosco Parish in Branford. Burial will follow in St Agnes Cemetery in Branford. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405.
