Westbrook

Julia M. Keith, 97, of Westbrook died peacefully at home on Feb. 25. A loving mother and active participant in charity work, Julia was born in Wethersfield to John and Nora McCormack.

After graduating from St. Joseph College, Julie served as an analyst at the Connecticut Development Commission before relocating to Cambridge, Massachusetts with her beloved husband Harold. After moving back to Connecticut, Harold was elected mayor of West Hartford, providing Julie the opportunity to serve as the first lady of the town.

Throughout her life, Julie was an active supporter of charitable organizations, serving as president of the Women’s Auxiliary of St. Francis Hospital (as well as the Hospital’s first patient advocate), and raising funds as chair of the Lasalette Fathers’ annual debutante ball. Her many charitable works earned Julie the esteemed Papal Award of Knights of St Gregory.

Julie was an accomplished tennis player and also spent many wonderful years sailing with Harold and their daughters on their sailboat Liebchen. Other pursuits included playing piano (and composing music) and duplicate bridge.

Julie is survived by her daughters, Jackie Keith of New York City and Barbara Rosengren of Newport, Rhode Island.

Funeral services were held March 1 at St. Mark’s Church in Westbrook. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery in Rocky Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women’s Auxiliary of St. Francis Hospital. For her online guestbook, visit www.swanfuneralhomeoldsaybrook.com.
