North Haven

Martha Christina Thomson Kirschner, 86, of Wallingford, formerly of North Haven for 56 years, passed away peacefully on Feb. 16 at the Masonicare Health Center, Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of John Hall Kirschner for 64 years. Born in New Haven on Nov. 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Ida Hansson Thomson.

She graduated from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. Martha later earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 1985 and a master’s from the same in 1990. She worked as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Ashlar Village part-time. Martha was a member of Eastern Star and Hartford Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association. She was an avid swimmer and loved to quilt, travel, and listen to music. She was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church, New Haven.

She was the mother of Mark (Rosemary) Kirschner, Robert (Stacy) Kirschner, and Miles Kirschner; grandmother of Katherine Leone (Jonathan) Vanase and Joseph Christian (Savannah) Kirschner; and great-grandmother of Elena and Anthony Vanase.

Due to COVID-19, all services will be private at this time. A memorial service will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda Lutheran Church, 305 St. Ronan Street, New Haven, CT 06511 or Masonicare, 22 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT 06492
