Deep River

A proud, loving, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather

Leonard Joseph Tarte, 76, husband of Betty J. (Moss) Tarte, died peacefully Feb. 9, 2021, at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Mr. Tarte was born Oct. 5, 1944, in Waterbury, son of the late Henry Noel Tarte and Meria Marie (Villemure) Tarte and was raised in Waterbury where he attended Saint Anne’s School and W.F. Kaynor Technical High School. He worked for more than 25 years as a machine operator at Lee Company in Essex, retiring in 2018.

Lenny proudly served in the Army National Guard and he was a member of the BPO Elks, Lodge 1784 in Westbrook and a volunteer for the Fire Department-Fire Police Unit of Deep River. He was an avid world traveler who loved the outdoors, especially camping, gardening, and fishing. He was a proud, loving, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather—he loved his family and they will miss him so very deeply.

In addition to Betty, his loving wife for more than 31 years, Lenny is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Jeannine and Bob St. Germaine, eight children and their partners, several nieces and nephews and their partners, and many grand and great-grandchildren.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
