Jeane R. Stallard, 89, beloved wife of Christopher Stallard, passed away peacefully on Jan. 20. Born in her grandmother’s house in Deep River, daughter of Francis and Theresa Lebert Rutty, Jeane grew up in the Depression.

She remembered living in Hartford, Wethersfield, and Cobalt, settling in Old Saybrook in the 1940s, where she attended Old Saybrook High School. She knew and worked for Miss James at James’ Pharmacy until the early 1950s.

Jeane married Christopher Stallard in 1962, they would spend 58 years together, having two children, Michael and Paul.

Over the years, Jeane was active in various groups, a former president of the local PTA, and ran on Robbie Colomore’s ticket in the early 1960s for town treasurer. A former Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, Jeane signed up to deliver coffee and donuts to the workers building the “new” Chester Elementary School. She was also a former Avon lady and retired as assistant tax collector.
