James W. Smith passed away Jan. 13, after a long fight with diabetes. Jim “Smitty” was born in New Haven Jan. 14, 1937.

He leaves behind his significant other, Ann T. Speringo; his five children, daughter Susan Wheeler (her husband Kevin) and sons Kevin (his wife Kate), Rob, Bill (his wife Lisa), and Jim (his wife Teresa); five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

James was employed by the Housatonic Lumber Company in Derby for many years.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, services will be held privately.
