Edward S. “Ted” Pilcher II, 70, died peacefully at home after a long courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 1 in Old Saybrook. He was predeceased by his parents, Joann and Colman Pilcher of Riverside, Connecticut and Westerly, Rhode Island.

Ted served in the U.S. Navy at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and was a master mechanic, working in the commercial power, and later, the marine industry. He traveled all over the world to service large power equipment.

He was a U.S. Coast Guard captain, and felt most at home on the water, on his boats, Three Ladies and Miss Alma, with a particular fondness for Block Island and Hamburg Cove. He could be seen on the Connecticut River, on his “rubber ducky,” all months of the year.

He had been a member of the Larchmont Yacht Club since 1990. After raising their daughters in Larchmont, he and his wife, Barbara moved to the Connecticut shoreline where he worked as the mechanical foreman for Pilot’s Point Marina in Westbrook.

He is survived by his beloved Three Ladies, wife Barbara, and daughters Jessica and Annie; his son-in-law Claudio Cáceres; and his wonderful grandchildren, Oliver and Alma Cáceres. He is also survived by his loving sister, Kathy Berko; nephew Kenneth Berko (Leighann) and their sons Cole and Ethan Berko; and his brother Lawrence Pilcher (Laurie) of Clinton and their son James Pilcher (Kennedy) and daughter Amanda Pilcher.
