Madison

Marjorie Ruth (Baer) Calandrelli, 86, of Madison passed away peacefully Jan. 2, in the presence of family. Marjorie was born June 24, 1934, in Peoria, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Theodore Baer and Margaret (Rothwell) Baer.

“Marge” spent her childhood in Peoria, and the family moved to La Jolla, California in her early teens. She graduated from Pomona College with a bachelor of arts in history and philosophy and pursued graduate studies in philosophy at Yale University in New Haven, where she met her husband John J. Calandrelli. They raised their family in Hamden, where Marjorie was a vocational education teacher at ACES until retirement. She was a master tax advisor and enrolled agent with the IRS, and continued until her passing.

Marge lived her life with unconditional love and acceptance for all. No matter what gift or burden one carried, there was always a place at her table. She touched many lives with her non-judgmental, welcoming presence. She found great joy in exploring life with all those who knew her. Above all else, Marge loved spending time with her family and friends. Her passions included swimming, Little League baseball, tennis, music, reading, nature, and the Cubs. Her dedication to her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities, teams, education and interests was unrivaled. She almost never missed a ballgame!

Marjorie is predeceased by her parents, her late husband John J. Calandrelli, and their son David Baer Calandrelli. She is survived by her children Jahna Calandrelli Moncrief of Spofford, New Hampshire, Christopher J. Calandrelli of Madison, and Margaret L. Leiss of Madison; grandchildren Henry D. Moncrief of Alstead, New Hampshire, Amie F. Moncrief of Peterborough, New Hampshire, and John D. Calandrelli, Paul J. Calandrelli, and Josephine L. Leiss of Madison; great-grandson Griffin H. Moncrief of Alstead, New Hampshire; daughter-in-law Martha McCrann Calandrelli; son-in-law Fredric Leiss; daughter-in-law Kathleen Pell of Bridgeport, New York; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
