On Jan. 8, MaryJane (Wedlock) Devlin, known as MJ, Mom, Gramma, GG, and Mrs. Devlin from Clinton, passed away peacefully. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on Aug. 1, 1932, the daughter of the late Agnes and Matthew Wedlock.

She is survived by her husband, Liam “Lee,” of 68 years, her loving sister Joan Sweeney, brother Matthew Wedlock, and cousin Joan Flasko, along with in-laws Gerry Devlin, Michael Devlin (Barbara), and Kathleen Devlin (Bob) and many nieces and nephews.

Family was the most important part of MaryJane’s life. She enjoyed bringing everyone together for holidays, celebrations, or simply for a cup of tea. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s plays and sporting events, as well as playing games, singing songs, and reading to them; she was their biggest supporter. MaryJane was Mom to Liam Christopher Devlin (Joan), William George Devlin (Sue), Susan Hélѐne Argyros (Tom), Elizabeth Devlin Gauthier (David), and Maura Joan King (Derek, deceased). She was Gramma to Aaron, Paul, Jesse, Leslie, Megan, Liam, Tara, Derek, Ana, David, Owen, and Shanna and GG to great-grandchildren Lily, Amaya, Ariana, Nicholas, Grace, Shawn, Abel, Colin, Jackson, and Corey, with another great-granddaughter on the way!

Known as Mrs. Devlin, MaryJane was a devoted kindergarten/1st grade teacher in the Clinton school district for more than 35 years where she made many lifetime friends who she treasured. She loved telling stories about her students. She wrote The Power of Play and Learning about her teaching experiences. She believed students learn best when given a choice in their learning that is relevant, engaging, and full of play.

Community was important to MaryJane. St. Mary’s Church is where she worshipped and participated in many ministries, including prayer group and the Peace and Justice Committee. She was a eucharistic minister, delivering communion to people unable to attend church. She was loved and respected by all and an inspiration to parishioners.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford. A memorial service and celebration of MaryJane’s life will be announced and held when groups can more freely gather. An online memorial and guestbook is available at www.wsclancy.com.
