Branford

Barbara Sciarra Kiczyinski of Branford died Jan. 4 at her home. She was happily married to her husband of 65 years, Edward Kiczyinski of Branford. Barbara was born Sept. 15, 1935, in New Haven, daughter of the late Emery and Barbara Budz Sciarra, owners of Sciarra Moving and Trucking.

She grew up in Branford and was a talented athlete at Branford High School. In 1953 Barbara was crowned Miss Stony Creek and eventually finished as runner up Miss Connecticut. Barbara served her nation proudly as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy Reserves in 1955.

Barbara was the proud mother of four boys, Mark and Michael Kiczyinski of Branford, Edward Kacey of Orange, and Matt Kiczyinski of Middletown, Rhode Island. She is also survived by her granddaughter Nicole Kacey and great-granddaughters Maddy Kacey and Laura Dominguez. She was predeceased by her brother Americo “Skip” Sciarra.

Friends are invited to visiting hours from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, and may attend a graveside service at 10 a.m. Friday , Jan 8 in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Branford High School Athletic Department to support female athletics, c/o BHS 185 East Main Street, Branford, CT 06405.
