North Branford

It is with deep sorrow in our hearts we announce Kim Jenkins Owens passed away Dec. 3, at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Torrington May 25, 1955.

She was predeceased by her parents, George Jenkins and Thelma Spargo Jenkins of Terryville; a nephew, Eric Jenkins of Bristol; and sister-in-law, Darla Holcomb Jenkins. She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Christopher B. Owens, Jr. of North Branford; sisters Lauren (Dennis) Pierce of Sun City Center, Florida, and Candace (Ed) Davies of Milford; brothers Wayne (Andrea) Jenkins of Bristol and Craig Jenkins of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; nieces; great-nieces; great-nephews; and many cousins who she enjoyed immensely, in addition to many friends.

She will be sorely missed.

She graduated from Terryville High School in 1973, and received her bachelor of arts degree from Southern Connecticut State University in art education in 1977. Later she received her master of arts in art history, also from Southern Connecticut State University.

She was an art teacher in Rocky Hill for 32 years, mostly at the high school, retiring in 2011. She also worked summers at the Steak & Ale/Sword Restaurant in Milford.

She enjoyed many activities, gardening, drawing, painting, going to nice restaurants, kayaking, skiing, hiking, and visiting museums and of course art galleries.

The family ask that donations in Kim’s name go to North Branford Land Conservation Trust, Guilford Land Conservation Trust, and Branford Land Trust.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
