Frank Nesi, 91, of North Branford passed away Dec. 26, 2020, at The Connecticut Hospice in Branford.

Loving husband of Anna Nesi, Frank was born in Corona Queens, New York on Sept. 14, 1929, the son of the late Nicholas and Angelina Nesi. He was the loving father of Mary (Robert) Grande of Branford, Nicholas Nesi of Branford, and Julie (Mark) Schwartz of West Hartford and grandfather to Jonathan, Jenna, and Jeffrey Grande; Jordan Nesi; and Becky and Billy Schwartz. He was brother to James (Eileen) Nesi of Queens, New York.

A veteran of the Korean War, Frank proudly served in the United States Army Medic Corps for two years. Following his military service, he returned to college under the G.I. Bill and received his bachelor of business administration from City College of New York, where he met Anna, his wife of 63 years.

Following college graduation, Frank began a successful career in the insurance industry beginning with the Zurich Insurance Company. A transfer brought the family first to Fairfield and then to North Branford. Eventually he left Zurich to become vice president of the Howard Tozzo Insurance Agency. He continued his career as an insurance agent with the North Haven Insurance Group until his retirement after more than 40 years.

An avid sports fan, Frank loved his New York Yankees and New York Giants. One of his greatest joys was spending Sunday afternoons watching the Giants football games with his son and grandsons. His family was so important to him and he proudly attended his grandchildren’s many sporting events, musical concerts, plays and graduations.

In retirement, Frank and Anna traveled to Italy and Ireland as well as the West Coast, while closer to home vacation destinations included Lake George and their favorite spot in Ogunquit, Maine—the walk along the Marginal Way. Another favorite frequent trip was to Mohegan Sun.

Having grown up in an apartment, Frank always wanted to have a house to raise his own family. He was so proud to have been able to provide a home where their children could play in their own yard, have a basketball hoop at the end of the driveway, and a pool to swim in. He took immense pride in being a homeowner and always was outside making sure his yard was perfect at all times.

The family would like to thank the Connecticut Hospice Home Care team of Lauren, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Nancy for the wonderful care provided to Frank as well as a special appreciation to Fadeke for her generous heart and gentleness. Thank you to the nursing and medical staff on the second floor at Connecticut Hospice for making our husband and father’s last weeks comfortable. The family would also like to thank Monsignor Walker for his friendship and spiritual support provided over the years.

A private ceremony will be held for immediate family due to COVID-19 restrictions and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
