Westbrook

Mrs. Marian MacPhee Owen, of Westbrook passed away Oct. 23, 2020, at Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation in West Hartford. It was her 89th birthday.

Marian was born Oct. 23, 1931, in Grove City, Pa. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Nicole Friel, and is survived by her husband Dean Owen; three children, Tom Owen, Jane Marques, and Carolyn McDermott; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Marian lived much of her life in Westport, where she worked as a library assistant and paraprofessional in the Westport public school system. She also volunteered for local charities that offered occupational and social support for adults with intellectual disabilities. Later becoming a resident of Westbrook, Marian had a strong network of friends that spanned across Connecticut, Vermont, and Florida.

Marian’s loved ones will remember her passion for bringing her family together, especially during summer vacations. Whether it was walks near the beach, ice cream trips into town, helping her granddaughter find the perfect wedding dress, or holding her great-grandson for hours at family events, Marian always showed up for her family. A lifelong master of crossword puzzles, she modeled perseverance and an aptitude for appreciating the little things in life, traits that live on in her children and grandchildren.
