John Kerry Totten, 71, of Old Saybrook passed away peacefully at home Oct. 25, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. John was born Jan. 18, 1948, in Middletown to Benedict and Doris Smith Totten of East Haddam.

John is survived by his wife Sandy; two sons, Christopher and Keith (Sarah); two grandsons, Liam and Grant; and his brother Steve (Sherry).

John was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam from February 1968 to February 1971. John was a kind and caring man who would do anything for his many friends and family. He was a great cook who never missed an opportunity to entertain for his friends and family. His involvement and love for his family was great; you could always count on John to be there. He never missed a chance to cheer on his grandsons at one of their many soccer games. There are many fond memories that will be cherished and help see us through this difficult time. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family and will always be loved.
