It is with great sadness that the family of Gary J. Lindsay, 78, announces his peaceful passing on Sept. 21 in Madison. He will be missed by his wife of 43 years, Karin; his five children, Sara (Chris), Christine (Andy), Stephanie, Michael (Lisa), and Jennie; nine grandchildren, Sydney, Hannah, Camille, Mason, Alexandra, Isabella, Cooper, Spencer, and Camden; and his brother Glenn (Linda).

Gary was a committed father and grandfather who valued family responsibility over all else. He will be lovingly remembered for providing years of happy memories for his familiy, from yearly trips to Cape Cod and Nantucket with his children to mastering the perfect Thanksgiving turkey each year. As his family expanded, spending time with grandchildren brought him great joy. He also enjoyed playing golf at Oak Hill Country Club, where he was a member for 47 years.

Gary was born in Rochester, New York, on Aug. 11, 1942, to the late Jerome and Marian Lindsay. He graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1964, joining Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in the Rochester office and becoming a tax partner until retiring and starting his own firm.

Gary was very involved with his alma mater, serving on the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Board of Directors for many years in many capacities. He received the Distinguished Alumnus award from the College of Business in 1982 and the Outstanding Alumnus award in 1985. He also sat on their National Alumni Council, Deferred Giving Advisory Committee, and College of Business Co-op Advisory Board.

Gary was an active member of numerous professional and local organizations, including the New York State Society of CPA’s, where he served as president. He held many positions with the ARC of Monroe, an organization charged with helping people who have developmental disabilities, including serving as treasurer and as president of the Board of Directors. Gary was an active member of the Estate Planning Council of Rochester, served on the Board of Directors at the Fairport Savings Bank, was active in the Wilson Foundation and the Nathanial Rochester Society, and was chairman of the Schmitt Foundation.

A private funeral service was held for Gary on Sept. 29, at St. Margaret Church in Madison. A memorial service will also be held in Rochester, New York, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at parkinsons.org.
