Guilford

Stephen Everett Fowler, lifelong resident of Guilford, passed away on Sept. 1 at Yale-New Haven Hospital in the presence of his wife and children. Stephen was born in New Haven on Sept. 4, 1949, son of the late Arnold Fowler and the late Glenna (Richardson) Fowler.

He graduated from Pennsylvania Military College and was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves as a major after almost thirty years. He was also an employee of the Internal Revenue Service, where he met his future wife Julie Ann Villamil when they were both accidentally assigned to the same desk; they celebrated their thirty-third wedding anniversary this year. After retirement, he enjoyed helping people through his work as a private tax consultant.

He was the brother of Arnold Bruce Fowler, father of daughters Julianne and Anne Elizabeth, and son Stephen Everett II. He enjoyed shooting, fishing, camping, hiking, baseball, motorcycles, sailing, storytelling, dogs, and spending time with his family and friends, and he will be remembered by all who knew him for his wry sense of humor, curious mind, and generous heart.
