Donald N. Houston of Guilford passed away June 9 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was born in Pennsylvania on Feb. 26, 1953, to the late Samuel Houston and the late Helen McKeel Houston.

Raised in Hatboro, Pennsylvania, Don graduated from Temple University in 1975 with a BS in journalism and in September of the same year he married Kandra Palmer with whom he shared the rest of his life that included love, laughter, and many outdoor adventures.

Although his father died when Don was an infant, his beloved Uncle Bill McKeel encouraged his passion for the outdoors, especially fishing. Don was happiest when he was on or near the water, including kayaking in his later years and all types of fishing throughout his life.

For most of his career Don worked in the marine insurance field and retired from Chubb Group of Insurance Companies in 2017 as a senior underwriting officer, ocean and inland marine specialist.

According to his wishes, Don was cremated with his ashes scattered at sea in a private ceremony.
