Francis (Frank) Thompson passed away July 26 peacefully in hospice. He is survived by his wife Ruth Anne (nee Cronin) of 61 years; his children Susan Thompson, Cate Ferreira (Chris), Don Thompson (Mary), and Jean Fitzgerald (Tim); his grandchildren Taylor, Hunter, and Spencer Farrington, Adam, Brett, and Derek (Courtney) Ferreira, Scott and Bridgit Thompson, and TJ, Maggie, Andrew, and Will Fitzgerald; and his great-granddaughters Kennedy and Abigail Ferreira.

Frank was born Feb. 26, 1926, in Glasgow, Scotland to Margaret Laidlaw (nee Clarke) and Francis Brown Thompson. He was raised in Silver Beach, New York City, attended St. Frances de Chantal School, St. Agnes High School, and Marist College. He earned his PhD from St. John’s University and did postgraduate work at Columbia and Harvard Universities. A lifelong educator, Frank was a high school teacher, assistant principal, college professor, and an administrator for New York State Department of Education. He was a resident of Madison for the past 17 years.

Frank will be remembered for his witty sense of humor and his devotion to God and family.
