Charlie and Bernice, married 49 years, left to be with Our Lord and Savior just days apart, Bernice on July 11 and Charlie on July 14.

Charlie and Bernice were both born in Connecticut, Charlie on March 14, 1946 and Bernice on Aug. 4, 1946. They attended The Morgan School, Clinton and upon graduation, they both proudly served in the United States Air Force.

Charlie was an accomplished heavy-duty diesel mechanic until his retirement. Bernice was a successful manager in the gas and oil industry, eventually transitioning to retail sales prior to retirement.

Together, Charlie and Bernice raised five children: Paul Kelly, Dawn Kelly, Charles Shepard, Jr. (April) of Orange City, Florida, Wende Lee (Ezell) of Pierson, Florida, and Holli (Mark) of Plymouth, Maine and their honorary daughter, Jennifer Wood (Andrew) of Edmonton, Canada.

They were unbelievably blessed with nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Charlie was preceded in death by his bride, Bernice; his parents, Bion and Maxine Shepard; and his eldest children, Paul and Dawn. He is survived by his three siblings, Bion Shepard, Lillian Bernard, and Dorothy Bugg, all of Clinton.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dorothea Bergen; her eldest children, Paul and Dawn; and her sister Doris Shaw. She is survived by her sister Louise Eagan (Port Orange, Florida).

Their surviving children, Charles, Wende, and Holli, will miss them always but take comfort in knowing they are together.

Interment will be postponed.
