Gloria Peragine, 94, passed away on May 11 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. A resident of Madison House in Madison, Gloria died of Covid-19.

Born in the Bronx and a graduate of James Monroe High School, Gloria married the love of her life, Vito Peragine, on Jan. 27, 1946. They remained married for 47 years until his death in 1993.

Gloria spent the majority of her life in Paramus, New Jersey, before moving to Madison in 2014. While in New Jersey, she was an active member of The Paramus Women’s Club and St. Luke’s Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey. A devout Catholic, her faith carried her through many losses in her life. An avid gardener, sun worshipper, and amazing cook, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Above all, Gloria was passionate about family. Gathering around the table on Sundays and holidays created memories that will last forever. The love she showed her family is something we will always cherish. She lived her life fully, took nothing for granted, and found pleasure and gratitude in the smallest things. She was so proud of her family and was loved beyond compare.

Gloria was predeceased by her parents (Frank and Theresa Tinelli), her husband (Vito), brothers (Joseph, Louis, and Frank Tinelli) and her companion of 14 years, (Frank Gasparri).

Gloria leaves behind her three children, Tonia Rau of Bedminster, New Jersey, Terese Phillips (Robin) of Madison, and Joseph Peragine (Christine) of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey; and seven adoring grandchildren, Stacey Vozeh (Chris), Jamie Martin (Spencer), Jennifer Rau, Kristen Smith (David), Richard Rau, Joseph Peragine, Jr., (Paige), and James Peragine (Brooke). She also leaves three great-grandchildren, Vivienne Smith, and Simon and Sebastian Vozeh; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial mass will be celebrated in her honor at a date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Palliative Care Unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Attn: Office of Development/Alison Smith Marcinek, Yale-New Haven Hospital, PO Box 1849, New Haven, CT 06508-9979.
