Ivoryton

Desmond Egan, 90, of Ivoryton passed away peacefully at the home of his loving daughter Susan on May 5 with family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Catherine Pandiani Egan. Born in Dublin, Ireland on June 20, 1929, the son of the late Francis and Maude (Gallagher) Egan, he also lived in England and Canada before making his way to the United States.

Des worked in the car industry, first with Austin Healy and then Chrysler Corp., serving in many different capacities, in numerous cities. After retiring from Chrysler in Illinois, he made his way back to Connecticut, settling in Clinton and marrying Cathy in 1992. Des loved playing with his trains, driving across the country pulling his trailer, traveling to far away places and large family gatherings. Des enjoyed talking to Kieran every Tuesday, breakfasts prepared by Lou, sardine sandwiches, and holding hands while watching TV with his love.

Along with his wife Cathy he leaves his children Annmarie Sebastian (Bill) of Groton; Susan Gallant (Gill) of Waterford; Ian Egan (Chris) of Portland, Oregon; Kieran Egan (Trish) of Chesepeake, Virginia; Beth Nagy (Jeff) of Old Saybrook; and Louis Jurgen of Ivoryton. He is survived by 20 grandchildren, his sister Jennifer Cooper(Richard) of Canada, his brother Bernard Egan of England, and several nieces and nephews. Desmond was predeceased by his son Maurice and his brother Allan. Des was a member of the Westbrook Congregational Church.

A graveside service will be celebrated at a later date. The family would like to thank the Center for Hospice Care in Norwich.
