Jerome “Jerry” Ira Baron, 73, of Killingworth, died April 9 at the Yale Hospital Wing of Branford Hospice. He had only been diagnosed two months earlier with an aggressive metastatic cancer. Because of the visitor restrictions under COVID-19, his wife of 28 years, Lynne Pauls Baron, could not be with him in the hospital nor at his passing.

Baron was born in 1946 in Brooklyn, New York, and spent much of his childhood in Germany, where his father was with the Marshall Plan. He graduated with honors from George Washington University and was given a full scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where he received an MBA. He went on to a distinguished career in Wall Street, where he was an expert at equity research in banking for firms such as First Boston, Merrill Lynch, and Prudential Securities. He was a popular speaker on the subject and his recommendations were widely followed.

Retiring to Killingworth from a busy life in New Jersey and Manhattan, Baron sought out vigorous outdoor activities and served on the Killingworth town finance committee. He also ran as First Selectman. His wife, Lynne Baron, who had also been an equities analyst on Wall Street in pharmaceuticals, now became a writer and curator for museums and artists’ estates.

Jerome Baron leaves two daughters, Abigail Miguel and Rebecca Baron, and two granddaughters in Washington State. His sister, Eileen Leshan, lives in Virginia.

A funeral was held at Alderbrook Cemetary in Guilford, officiated by Rabbi Eliana Falk on April 14, at which Mr. Baron was laid to rest.
