Barbara Stiles Brainard, 93, of East Hampton, formerly of Old Saybrook, died on April 6. She was the wife of the late Donald Brainard. She was the loving mother of Scott and his wife Mary from Westbrook, Glenn and his wife Laura from East Hampton, and Lee from East Hampton. Barbara was the cherished grandmother of Christopher and Jacob of Westbrook. She was the sister of Joan Lessard of Wallingford, the late Lucille Kenny of Richmond, Maine, the late Marion Shur of Meriden, the late Sherman Stiles of Meriden, and the late Charles Fowler of Old Saybrook. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Barbara grew up in Meriden and spent her summers at the Meadowlark on West Beach in Westbrook. She attended Stetson University and in 1955 she married Donald and resided in Westbrook. In 1963, they moved to Old Saybrook where they raised their three sons. In 1993, they moved to East Hampton. Barbara’s life was dedicated to her family and helping those in need. She will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, her gentle kindness, and her unyielding generosity.
