Old Saybrook

Emile Allen Caouette, 88, of Old Saybrook, husband of 61 years to Carolyn Rollins Caouette, passed away on Feb. 13 at Water’s Edge Health and Rehab Center in Middletown.

Mr. Caouette is preceded in death by sister Pauline Caouette and brother Jack Caouette. He is survived by sister Judy Zeeman.

Emile Caouette was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Skowhegan, Maine, to his late parents Urbain and Emilienne Caouette. He attended and graduated Colby College, University of Maine, and University of Vermont with degrees in mathematics and education. Mr. Caouette taught high school mathematics in the area for 35 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Army. He was a parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church in Old Saybrook. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and traveling to Alaska. After retirement he spent five seasons working at Yellowstone National Park.

In addition to his wife Carolyn and his sister Judy, he is survived by two sons, Michael Caouette and wife Libbi Miller of McKinleyville, California, and Matthew Caouette of Flagstaff, Arizona; and two daughters, Andrea and husband Kevin Kuhl of Thiensville, Wisconsin, and Jill and husband Victor Cartagena of Ivoryton. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Erin Kuhl, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Nicolas Cartagena, Ivoryton, and Jack Caouette, McKinleyville, California.

Emile’s family would like to express their deep gratitude to the Water’s Edge Health and Rehab Center staff for their wonderful care.

There was a funeral Mass of Christian burial at St. Marks’s Catholic Church in Westbrook. He was interred at Cypress Cemetery in Old Saybrook. Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook, is handling the arrangements.
