Old Saybrook

Michael I. Rand, son of Warren and Joan Rand entered eternal rest on Dec. 19. Michael was born in London, England on Dec. 24, 1942.

Michael, along with his brother Gary and sister Anne, were expatriated to the United States after WWII aboard the RMS Queen Elizabeth. Michael attended Old Saybrook Senior High School and soon after married his wife of 55 years Karen Apel. He was a veteran of the US Navy, where he served on the USS Fulton until he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and was employed by Stop & Shop for 35 years before his retirement. Michael enjoyed boating, gardening and spending time with his beloved bride Karen.

Michael is survived by his daughter Elizabeth A. Rand of Old Saybrook; brother Steven Rand of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; brother Gary Rand of St. Petersburg Florida; and grandchildren Nicole and Natalie Kirkman, Michael and Eli Bowker of Old Saybrook. He was predeceased by his son Michael Rand, Jr., and his wife Karen Rand.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Feb. 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Swan Funeral Home, 80 E. Main St., Clinton, followed by a graveside service and military honors at 12:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Sheffield Street, Old Saybrook.
