Guilford

Martha P. Lombard, 72, of Guilford passed away peacefully at Connecticut Hospice on Feb. 4. She was born on July 16, 1947, in New Haven to the late Arthur and Frances (Barteau) Peberdy.

Martha was a 1965 graduate of Guilford High School. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Southern Connecticut State University. In 2010, she retired as a school library media specialist from East Haven Public Schools. She enjoyed vacations to Sint Maarten with her late husband of 32 years, Edwin (Ned).

She is survived by her children Anne (Brian Minichino) of Clinton and Ed (Michelle) of Guilford. She was the proud grandmother of Mary and Victoria Minichino and Eddie and Hayden Lombard. Besides her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her sister Judith (Judy) Bartlett of Bradford, Vermont, and her brother William (Bill) Peberdy of Corinth, Vermont.

Her family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to Dr. Zaheer and his staff at the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center of Guilford for their compassion and guidance over the past 15 years, but especially this last year.

Those who knew Martha know she did not like having a fuss made about her. Instead, she enjoyed making others feel special by sending a hand-written thank you note or holiday card, celebrating accomplishments with flowers, or giving small thoughtful gifts.

In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Martha’s giving spirit, we ask that you consider making a donation to the Alison Varian Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Guilford Foundation, PO Box 35, Guilford, CT 06437, or to The Guilford Agricultural Society, PO Box 290, Guilford, CT 06437.
