Gretta (Farrelly) Wright, 86, formerly of Old Saybrook, died peacefully Jan. 14 at Water’s Edge Rehabilitation Center and Nursing Home in Middletown. She was born on Jan. 17, 1933, in Clonmellon County, Westmeath, Ireland, to the late Joseph and Frances (McCardle) Farrelly.

Gretta was predeceased by her husband George Wright, and her brothers Tom and Joseph Farrelly. She is survived by her daughter Carol Sweeney of Old Saybrook; her sons Brian Wright of Overland Park, Kansas, and Thomas Wright of Louisville, Kentucky; and her grandchildren Fiona Sweeney of Los Angeles, California, Emily Wright of Omaha, Nebraska, and Colleen Wright of Warrensburg, Missouri.

Gretta worked most of her life as a hairdresser and eventually owned and operated her own salon. She enjoyed traveling, pottery, and of course time with her family. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 17, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 12 p.m. at St. John Church, 161 Main St., Old Saybrook.
