Dorothy C. Hallowell, long-time resident of Guilford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Dec. 25. Wife of the late Lawrence F. Hallowell, Dorothy (Dorothee Dolores Corbin) was born Oct. 15, 1930, in New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Estelle (Albert) Corbin.

Dorothy was the loving mother of Kimberly (Timothy) Mangs, Tamye Molinaro, Shawn (Jennifer) Hallowell, Todd Hallowell, and Kristen (Todd) Forselius. She is survived by her sister Claudette LeFevre; brother Burton Corbin; 12 grandchildren, Dillon (Lisa) Mangs, Tyler (Elyssa) Mangs, Max Mangs, Nicholas Ranton, Chelsea (Michael) Naumowitz, Taylar (Justin) Miele, Delilah Hallowell, Cassidy Hallowell, Tate Hallowell, Tess Hallowell, Corbin Forselius, and Finley Forselius; and her great-grandchildren Zane Naumowitz, Mack Naumowitz, and Remy Mangs. Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Claude Corbin.

Dorothy graduated as class valedictorian from Sacred Heart Convent in Grand Falls, Canada, and was bilingual, speaking French and English. She worked as a secretary after graduation at 19 , prior to moving to the US to continue work for an insurance company. In her youth, Dorothy (Dot) was an avid skier and tennis player in Canada. Dorothy also had a keen sense of fashion and decorating; she loved to knit, sew, and design her own clothing under the guidance of her numerous aunts. She worked for many years as manager of Hitchcock Chair Company and after retirement, at the Guilford Community Center.

As a devout Roman Catholic, she attended St. George Church and participated in countless church activities, including the Social Committee and Little Folks Fair. Dorothy was a lively, vivacious woman who never missed the chance to dance. She cherished her friends, affectionately referred to as “the girls.” Dorothy enjoyed summer music on the Guilford Green, Jacobs Beach, local trips with the seniors, and traveling to Broadway shows. She was a lifelong sports enthusiast and remained a loyal fan of golf, tennis, baseball, and the New England Patriots.

Above all, Dorothy was a loving and devoted sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. All who loved her dearly will never forget her tenacity, strength, grace, and undying love and caring for them. She will be missed by her family and the many lives she impacted so positively.

Friends called Dec. 29 at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. A celebration of her life took place Dec. 30 in St. George Catholic Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford.
