Guilford

Alice Jane Dowell passed away peacefully on Nov. 23 in Guilford. Alice was born in Hartford City, Indiana, on July 22, 1936, to Everett and Edith Huddlestun. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Jim Huddlestun, and first husband Richard W. Ray. She is survived by her three daughters Leeann, Karen, and Sydney Ray, and her three grandchildren Quade, Phoebe, and Fynley.

Alice was a life member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, a proud graduate of Purdue University, and an active alumna to the end of her life. Alice was a fiercely independent woman and one of two women in 1958 to graduate Purdue’s pharmaceutical program, earning a doctor of pharmacy. She practiced pharmacy in Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee well into her 70’s and was passionate about her profession. She retired in Cooksville, Tennessee, and enjoyed spending time with alumni, family, and her pets. She will be missed by those she left behind and all of the women she inspired throughout her career.

In keeping with her wishes, there will no public memorial ceremony. Her ashes will be laid to rest “back home in Indiana.”
