Deep River

On Nov. 2 Carol Sawicki Hofmann, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, lost a courageous battle to brain cancer at the age of 73. Carol was born on March 20, 1946, in New Haven, the only child of Stanley Sawicki and Helen Pruski Sawicki.

In 2006 Carol married Robert Hofmann; they lived together on her beloved Star Lake in Deep River. Carol was a devoted wife and travel companion to Bob who shared his love with her visiting destinations across the United States and Caribbean.

She is survived by two children, Jacqueline D. Doane and her husband William C. Doane of Essex, and Dana A. Bontatibus and his wife Jennifer A. Davis of Topsham, Maine. Nene also leaves behind five grandchildren, Tucker, Justus (Mackenzie), Will, Jack, and Emily.

Carol was predeceased by her son Joseph Frank Bontatibus and will be buried with Joey at Fountain Hill Cemetery in Deep River.

Carol worked for Stop and Shop bakery for 25 years and loved to laugh. She easily filled a room with laughter and was sure to include everyone in ear’s reach. She loved to cook and bake and was happiest when her home was filled with family and friends. Carol was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind beautiful memories.

In accordance with Carol’s last wishes, there will be a private graveside service for family and close friends. All family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Carol’s life on Sunday, Nov. 24 at Saybrook Point Inn from 1 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation.
