Madison

John James Gould of Madison passed away peacefully at his home, The Hearth in Madison, on Sept. 12 at age 84. John was the son of Anna Siem Gould and James Gould of Waltham, Massachusetts, where John was born and educated.

He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved brother George Gould. John is survived by his daughters Raychel Brown and Krista Kelleher; son-in-law Mike Kelleher; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A resident of Madison for more than 30 years, John loved the Connecticut Shoreline and always said, “There is no better place in the world to live than the shoreline between New London and New Haven.” John served in the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Preston and the U.S.S. Benner, followed by studying electrical engineering at the University of Massachusetts, where he was a member of Phi Mu Delta.

John was one of the top salespersons at IBM until his retirement, was a member of the 100% club most of his career, and his hobbies were his avocation. John’s lifelong passion was the sea and all things nautical, boats, sailing, fishing, and clamming. A talented amateur photographer, John usually had a camera in hand everywhere he went, taking thousands of photographs of his family, friends, and boats throughout the years. In keeping with his passion, John was a member of the Shennecossett Yacht Club and the Shoreline Sailing Club.

Donations may be made in John’s memory to the US Coast Guard Foundation, 394 Taugwonk Rd., Stonington, CT 06378.
