Branford

Betsy Bigelow Seward, 78, of Branford passed away peacefully on Aug. 25 at Connecticut Hospice, surrounded by family.

Born on Oct. 18, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Frank Bigelow, Sr., and the late Miriam T. Bigelow.

She was also predeceased by her ex-husband Donald Franklin Seward, Sr. She is survived by her son Donald Franklin Seward, Jr., and her former daughter-in-law, Cara Morris Seward, her much-loved grandchildren Evan, Jackson, and Madelyn Seward, all of Branford; her daughter Rubyanne Leverich of North Haven and beloved grandson Joshua Leverich. She is also survived by her brother Vining Bigelow of Branford. Betsy is also survived by her three pet cats that she dearly loved.

Betsy graduated from The Mary Burnham School in Northhampton, Massachusetts, class of 1958. She attended Quinnipiac College and graduated from the University of Connecticut, in Storrs. Betsy worked for many years as a social worker for the State of Connecticut, the position from which she retired.

In her teens, Betsy loved to ride horses. Her love for animals continued, and she owned many cats, including her favorites, B-Lo and Fenton J. Pennyworth the III. She could always be found on the sidelines of her son Don’s Branford High School football games, and later was her four grandchildren’s biggest fan, cheering loudly from the sidelines of whatever game they might be playing.

Betsy was very loved, and will be dearly missed.

Funeral services will be private. Contributions in Betsy’s name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
