James P. O’Mara passed away Sept. 16 at his home in Asheville, North Carolina. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Penny Faulkner O’Mara and son Joel.

Jimmy was born on Aug. 4, 1972. He grew up in East Haven, and was the son of the late Joseph Patrick (Red) O’Mara, Jr., and Gayle Stackpole O’Mara. He was the beloved baby brother of Kelly Whitney, John O’Mara, Katie (Kevin) Carey, and Coleen (Vic) O’Mara. He was predeceased by brother Joseph (Liz) O’Mara and brother-in-law Richard Whitney.

He is also survived by loving in-laws Walter and Donna Faulkner, and brothers-in-law Walter Faulkner, Jr., and Joseph Faulkner.

He was uncle to Elizabeth (Peter) Anaclerio, Katherine (Paul) D’Angelo, Andrew, Margaret, and MaryColleen Whitney, Catherine (Frank) Putney, Megan O’Mara, Abigayle and Kelly O’Mara, Maina, Mason, and Sara Carey, Chris, Jessica, and Joseph (Stephanie) Faulkner, Jr., and GiannaMarie Faulkner. Jimmy was part of a large and adoring family and is also survived by his numerous aunts, uncles, grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, and life-long best friend Michael Danz.

Jimmy proudly served in the US Air Force and Navy Reserve. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, his genuine friendship, his adoration of music, and his fanatical enthusiasm for the Mets and the Jets. For those of us who knew and loved him we consider ourselves lucky, and we will miss him and cherish his memory forever.

Family and friends are welcome to join in a memorial service/celebration of life beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28 at The American Legion House, 243 N. Main St., Branford. James decided to do whole body donation to Restore Life USA.
