Deep River

Shirley C. Terenzi, 84, passed away peacefully at home in Deep River on Sept. 1 surrounded by family. Born in Waterbury on Nov. 28, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Pietro Ciarlo and Philomena (Albini) Ciarlo.

Formerly of Waterbury and in later years retiring to Bonita Springs, Florida, Shirley dutifully supported and embraced her husband’s 30 years in fire service with the City of Waterbury Fire Department and her son’s 26 years with the Connecticut State Police. Shirley was a member of the Bermuda Gardens Condominium Association Board of Directors and a Eucharistic minister and communicant at St. Leo Catholic Church in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Peter Terenzi, Jr. She is survived by her son Peter R. Terenzi III (Janice Kmetz) of Deep River, and grandson Peter R. Terenzi IV of Los Angeles, California. She also leaves brothers Mario Ciarlo of Fallschurch, Virginia; Daniel Ciarlo of Naugatuck; sister Patricia Boudo and husband Peter Boudo of Tolland; several nieces and nephews; as well as Aunt Mary and Uncle Angelo Guerrera.

A Memorial Mass was held on Sept. 10 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 14 Prospect St., Essex. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers donations in Shirley’s memory may be made to the Connecticut State Police Academy Alumni Educational Foundation, 285 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.
