Madison

Joseph Correira III, longtime resident of Madison, passed away Aug. 29 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Patrice (Teta) Correira, the love of his life. Joe was born March 8, 1949 and raised in Old Mystic, son of the late Joseph Correira, Jr., and Emma (Thomson) Correira.

He was the loving father of his four-legged son Newton and J. Matthew; brother of Linda Ipsen, James Correira, and Nancy Boardsen; and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Joe was an executive in the insurance and banking industries. Once retired, he volunteered with the Good Dog Foundation where he and Newton devoted their days to visiting children in the NYU hospitals. Joe also enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking, and swimming. An avid bowler, he was the president and multi-year champion of the Madison Lawn Bowling Club.

Special thanks go to the doctors and nurses at Yale New Haven CTICU for their compassionate care.

Friends are invited to graveside services on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 10:30 a.m. in West Cemetery, 72 Jannas Lane, Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Yale Comprehensive Heart Failure Program, c/o Shelly Bruneau, Dana 3, 333 Cedar Street, New Haven, CT 06520.
