Deep River

Ruth Marion (Schofield) Lawrence, 90, resident of Deep River, passed away peacefully on Aug. 4 at Aaron Manor Health and Rehabilitation in the presence of her loving family. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Dec. 29, 1928, the daughter of Herman David Schofield and Pearl Marion (Doughty) Schofield.

Ruth was raised and educated in Worcester and attended the Worcester School of Business Science. She was a 26-year resident of Deep River, and a long-time congregant and choir member of the Deep River Congregational Church. Ruth lived a very happy and impactful life. Her calm strength and easy-going personality were a joy to all who knew her. She was dedicated to her husband, best friend, and soul mate, Jack. They shared 41 wonderful years together until his passing in March of 2019. They were a match made in heaven. Ruth was immensely proud of Jack and their combined children, spouses, and grandchildren. Ruth came to a deep faith when she joined Deep River Congregational Church, where she and Jack sang together for many years in the choir. She was an avid reader, loved music, nature, knitting, swimming in the ocean, and her friends at Aaron Manor.

Ruth was a top-notch, self-taught executive assistant who worked for the president of Napier Fashion Jewelry for more than seventeen years. She then went on to start her own business The Branch Office, where she provided word processing and communication services to many individuals and companies. She worked on countless boards and committees throughout her life. She was a meticulous bookkeeper and huge asset to any organization she was involved with.

She leaves behind her two daughters and son-in-law Robin and Harold Stohlts of Haddam, and Wendy Bedard of East Hartford. She also leaves behind her six stepchildren, Jeff Lawrence of Milford, Massachusetts, Jill and Bob MacCully of North Reading, Massachusetts, Joel and Nancy Lawrence of Cumberland, Rhode Island, Judy Lawrence of North Easton, Massachusetts, Jamie and Cathy Lawrence of Morrisville, Vermont, and John Jr. and Michele Lawrence of Carrollton, Texas; her 16 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, followed by a funeral service at the Deep River Congregational Church, 1 Church St., Deep River.
