Deep River

It is with great sadness that the family of Aletta Hamlin Spielman announces her passing on July 26 at the age of 67. Aletta, a loving wife, mother, and sister, was born in 1952 in Southington to Arthur and Betty Hoffman.

On Jan. 30, 1971, she married her high school sweetheart Paul Joseph Spielman, and they raised two children, Jenifer and Mathew. For twenty years she worked as the office manager at her husband’s business, Nortech Water & Energy in Norwich. Aletta had a passion for gardening, good food, enjoying time with her family, and volunteering.

Throughout her life, and wherever she and Paul resided, she always took time to serve. She became a member of the Friends of the Otis Library in Norwich, a volunteer at the Sandwich Public Library in Sandwich, Massachusetts, as well as working at the Sandwich Town Hall. Upon moving to Deep River, she felt the call to serve again and started volunteering at the Deep River Public Library. She was known for her infectious laugh, her incredible determination, and her kind soul.

Aletta was preceded in death by her father Arthur, her mother Betty, and daughter Jenifer. She is survived by her husband Paul, son Mathew (Julie), and her sister Diane.
